Human Trafficking happens in America- and the Superbowl is one of the biggest culprits of this practice. Looking the other way- we chose our entertainment value over human dignity and lives. This needs to stop in my opinion.

I find it interesting that the False memory people rarely bring up things such as Temple of Set- which is run by a former member of our elite govt by the name of Michael Aquino. This man was not only named as one of the culprits in the McMartin case- which included not only McMartin but a slew of other day-cares in the area, but also the Presidio daycare case- which was closed and protected by our govt. Assuming that all parents who reported abuse are “usually mentally unbalanced parents harboring weird imaginings or an ax to grind, or both” is so generalized that it dismisses the hundreds of concerned parents who came forth with allegations of abuse regarding their children that involved day-cares. The media- such as Geraldo- did their best to disregard these claims in the public eye in the late 80s and early 90s- just as Lucian Greaves and his Satanic Temple does when he runs rallies for Rick Scott, gets arrested for public indecency in grave yards, and tries to get satanic statues erected in Oklahoma. Doing their best to make satanism normal and innocuous, they promote bad behavior by trying to normalize the behavior in the public eye, which is why people like Jimmy Saville are NEVER arrested or prosecuted. Most who argue for the False Memory generally equate abuse allegations with flat out falsehoods- telling survivors they cant be believed, doing more damage than ever.

Basically- the new article on the Huffington Post entitled “Sex and Satanic Abuse: A Fad Revisited” by Allen Frances is nothing but a persuasive piece trying to convince people that child abuse never happens- that those parents who who report it are “mentally unbalanced parents harboring weird imaginings or an ax to grind, or both.” Don’t trust the police or the prosecution- because “ambitious prosecutors… used the cases to make a name for themselves.” Worse… “Parents, police, prosecutors, and therapists who theoretically were there to protect the kids from abuse instead themselves became their abusers.” The only ones who are the victims in this type of behavior are people like Jimmy Saville I guess. Of course- this is the case that has the Pedophile Protection Squad the most nervous- as people are beginning to realize the REALITY of this type of abuse. Of course- Frances is desperately trying to push through and help promote a man by the name of Noll- who wrote an article in Psychiatry Today that was nothing but a propaganda piece that was removed because it was so full of falsehoods. Desperately claiming that the abusers of children are the only victims here- people like Frances and Noll continuously call the survivor’s liars and go on and on about how the pedophile abusers are innocent. The fact that the Huffington Post promotes this is just sad, and the fact that these people believe that everyone involved with reporting child abuse are liars is disgusting in my opinion- and just wrong.

Ivory Garden is proud to announce that we will be hosting the annual Trauma & Dissociation Conference being held October 3rd through the 5th, 2014 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).   Please go to the “Conference Schedule” tab to see a preliminary schedule.  The actual conference begins at 8:30 am on Friday.

The conference will focus on clinicians, child abuse survivors, and loved ones working together in order to share knowledge that will empower, enlighten, and benefit each uniquely. Our goal is that trauma survivors will leave the conference with the tools and knowledge that can be used in everyday life; that supporters acquire a better understanding of trauma and dissociation and its effects on survivors; that clinicians gain skills that will be useful when treating dissociative clients.

Supporters of survivors.  If you have a family member, friend, or associate who has experienced trauma, you are also welcome.  This is your chance to become more familiar with the needs of survivors as well as hearing valid and reliable information about trauma and dissociation.  We would also welcome submissions for presentations.

Fact:
A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds. More than five children die every day as a result of child abuse. Approximately 80% of children that die from abuse are under the age of 4. It is estimated that between 50-60% of child fatalities due to maltreatment are not recorded as such on death certificates. More than 90% of juvenile sexual abuse victims know their perpetrator in some way. Child abuse occurs at every socioeconomic level, across ethnic and cultural lines, within all religions and at all levels of education. About 30% of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children, continuing the horrible cycle of abuse. About 80% of 21 year old that were abused as children met criteria for at least one psychological disorder. The estimated annual cost of child abuse and neglect in the United States for 2008 is $124 billion. (childhelp.org).

Fact:
A total of 2,039 suspects were prosecuted for Federal sex offenses in 2006, representing about 2.5% of the 83,148 suspects prosecuted in Federal courts. The main sex exploitation offense referred to U.S. attorneys shifted from sex abuse (73%) in 1994 to child pornography (69%) in 2006. Convicted sex offenders sentenced to prison increased from 81% in 1996 to 96% in 2006. (Bureau of Justice statistics.gov).

Fact:
According to the World Health Organization, up to 53,000 children are murdered worldwide each year. 1.8 million are involved in prostitution or pornography and 1.2 million have been trafficked. (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: Administration for Children & Families. Child Maltreatment 2011.)

Fact: 797,500 children (younger than 18) were reported missing in a one year period of time in America, resulting in an average of 2,185 children being reported missing EACH DAY. (The Center for Missing and Exploited Children 2012).

Fact:
Abused children all learn early to keep their mouths shut. They are told that they will not be believed, that their friends, siblings or families will die if they tell, etc.

Fact:
Those who do survive adapt through various ways: dissociation, acceptance, daydreaming, denial.

Fact:
Those who die are never able to tell their story.

Fact:
Those who live through the abuse either bury the memories through dissociation, become abusers themselves, or live in fear of their abusers.

Fact:
Dissociative Identity Disorder remains a recognized disorder (DSM-IV-TR – American Psychiatric Association).

Fact:
Once in awhile a brave survivor does tell their story of abuse. In the face of adversity – the skeptics, the abusers, the pedophiles – all there waiting to pounce, to create the very reality of her biggest fear – ‘no one will believe you’..

I find it interesting that both here and in the UK more has not been done to curb the sexual exploitation of children. Jimmy Saville- Jerry Sandusky- etc. are the simple scapegoats suggesting that there is a much bigger problem than expected, and yet the general public, although initially outraged, seem to simply forget about the problem and go on with their lives soon after it hits the public attention. In fact most know more about what is happening with the Kardashians than what is happening in their own communities concerning children, and that- in my opinion, is truly sad.

This is one of the reasons why activists eventually stop their vital work- as one can only beat their heads against the wall of indifference so long before the headaches of such apathy win over. I am a good example of that. It just seems as if people don’t care. If you ask an individual- they will adamantly declare that their resolve to stop all of this is first and foremost on their minds- but actions speak louder than words- and other than a lot of grandstanding not much is being done by the media and politicians to bring awareness to this situation- and those individuals who do often find themselves targeted in such a way that they generally are quieted in time. The media- other that offering up the usual suspects- don’t do anything to focus on this mess- and usually suggest that it is only a problem for third world countries, even though the facts show that EVERY NATION IN THE WORLD IS FACING THIS PROBLEM. The public is usually outraged for a moment- and then completely forgets and returns going about their business.

I am not sure where I am going with this blog other than to express my dismay at how things are working out. Maybe we are really at the decline of civilization- as our actions show we don’t much care even though it is the children that will bring about the future of mankind. Those who do not recognize or honor this fact are doomed to disappear into the folds of history- predetermining a bleak future. I can’t say whether or not this is being done deliberately- but the fact remains that it is happening and that such behavior will have severe consequences for ALL of us later on. Children need protection- and if we are too busy to do such- then we will find ourselves lost eventually in a cruel and indifferent world.

It is my opinion that we need to seriously take a look at our institutions connected with children and the status quo to see where our problems with child exploitation exists, as I believe that these factors are what is determining our apathy to the situation. Nebraska just passed a declaration to give human trafficking a month of expression- and yet the history of Omaha stands in the way of any real progress being made. To me, most of this agenda is shallow and pretty much meaningless- as, although their are some who mean well- without the proper public focus and media attention- nothing will fix the situation until ALL OF US AS A PEOPLE STAND WITH ONE VOICE against this mess. Will this happen in the future? If the past is any determination- it suggests that the answer to that question is no.

Years ago- our justice department reported that 2,185 kids are reported missing daily. This does not count the parents- like my own- who are profiting on selling their children into the sex trade who don’t bother to report anything. The numbers- as our population have increased- have only rose in numbers I imagine- and WHO KNOWS how really prevalent all of this is now. However- as situations suggest- like those concerning Sandusky and Saville, the problems not only still exist but are much worse than in the past. However- again- until we as a people rise up to stop this- the billions of dollars that are flowing from all of this will only continue to get worse- eventually enveloping all of us. Turning a blind eye and sticking our heads in the sand will only fuel this demise- and the time is NOW for us to stand and put our actions where our words are- putting children’s safety at the top of our priority list before it is too late to change course.

If this doesn’t happen soon- God help us all.

Today, Governor Dave Heineman signed the Proclamation observing January 2014 as Human Trafficking Awareness Month, with Senator Amanda McGill speaking about the reality of human trafficking in Nebraska and action being done to address the issue and help victims become survivors.

The Proclamation says:

WHEREAS, Human Trafficking is modern day slavery that is a violation of a person’s rights and dignity through the trade of human beings in sex trafficking, labor trafficking, and other forms of slavery and trafficking; and

WHEREAS, Human Trafficking became a federal crime when the United States Congress passed the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000, which in 2013 has been renewed as an amendment to the Violence Against Women Act; and

WHEREAS, Human Trafficking occurs when an adult, child, or infant is forcibly recruited, harbored, or transported for the purpose of forced exploitation, commercialized sexual exploitation, slavery, illicit adoption, removal of organs, and forced labor or services; and

WHEREAS, the Human Trafficking victim is treated in this manner for personal or monetary gain through involuntary servitude, fraud, coercion, debt bondage, physical and mental abuse, kidnapping, or death; and

WHEREAS, while the exact scope of Human Trafficking remains unknown, it is estimated that as many as 27 million people are affected worldwide, including an estimated two million children. The targets are both United States citizens and foreign nationals, who are chosen for their vulnerability in society; and

WHEREAS, the existence of Interstate 80 and internet advertising makes the State of Nebraska vulnerable to Human Trafficking. Law enforcement has increased efforts to investigate, prosecute, and help curb Human Trafficking in Nebraska; and

WHEREAS, Legislation has been passed in Nebraska to raise awareness, education, prevention and protection for all residents, thereby declaring that the State of Nebraska does not support this crime in any form and will continue the fight to end Human Trafficking; and

NOW THEREFORE, I, Dave Heineman, Governor of the State of Nebraska, do hereby observe the month of January 2014 as Human Trafficking Awareness Month in Nebraska. I do hereby urge all Nebraskans to increase their education on Human Trafficking, and protect one another by recognizing potential trafficking activity and victims and to report all suspicious activity to law enforcement.

The Latino American Commission will organize the Human Trafficking Proclamation to be signed again in 2015.
